With God in Mind

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Prov. 27:17) The key to iron sharpening iron is that one of the irons needs to be a different shape than the other.  If you and your thinking are shaped just like the world and its thinking, you will never bring God’s Kingdom to earth.  You can only bring Heaven if you are shaped like Heaven.  Earth-shaped vessels don’t bring Heaven-shaped results.

If the world’s thinking is sitting on the throne of your heart, the world’s ways will flow out of your heart.  If God is sitting on the throne of your heart, His Kingdom and His Ways will flow out of your heart!  You can’t give what you don’t have.   You need to carry Heaven on the inside of you, in order to make heaven around you. You must first be shaped like the Will of God to bring the Kingdom of God.

Will you let God be on the throne of your heart?

About 6 years ago, I heard the Lord clearly say “your mind is on the throne of your heart and I would like to be.”  God “fashioned each of our hearts individually” (Ps 33:15) and He yearns for full access to them.  But many of us hesitate to invite the Lord to occupy the throne of our heart, because we hesitate to want His answers to life’s questions.  But Proverbs 3:5-7 uses phrases like “do not lean on your own understanding,” “be not wise in your own eyes,” and “trust in the Lord with all your heart.”  The parts of our heart that we are supposed to trust Him with (invite Him in to) are ALL – all the parts of our heart should be fair game to Him.

But what if He challenges my thinking?

He will.  You cannot seek God if you do not want His answers and you cannot invite Him into your heart if you do not want your mind changed.  Psalms 34:4 (ESV) says “I sought the Lord and He answered me.”  When you truly seek God, you will hear His answers.  James said God will generously give wisdom to all who ask, but we must not be double-minded about whether or not we want to know what His Ways.  (James 1:5-8)  If we are double-minded, God knows our thoughts and will not give His pearls of Heavenly wisdom to those who are content to dig in the pig trough of the World’s thoughts.

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.”  (Col. 2:8)

You need to know what you have so that you don’t get cheated!  Read this: “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God . . . But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned . . . But we have the mind of Christ.” (1 Cor. 2:12-16)

Don’t trade in the finest Cadillac for a broken-down Chevy, and don’t trade in the mind of Christ for worldly thinking.

In whatever ways the world has taught us to think counter to the Word of God, let us jettison that natural thinking, lest it steal our cognitive inheritance – the mind of Christ.
