You are never too old to be used by God. Moses was 80 and Aaron was 83 when they went before Pharaoh and said “we’ve spoken to the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, and He told us to tell you to ‘let my people go.'” Pharaoh, in a pretty common answer, said “who is the Lord that I should listen to Him?” He made it clear “I don’t know the Lord and I am not going to let your people go.” The Israelites had been in Egypt for over 400 years and had grown so numerous that the Egyptians had begun slaughtering the male Israelite boys. The Israelites were not an obscure people group in Egypt! They were very numerous … and they had been there for 430 years! Yet, when Moses and Aaron stood before Pharaoh, he still did not know the Lord!
So who is the Lord? If you wanted to hire someone you would get to know them by looking at their resume. God has a resume too. It’s His Word! And God’s Word is literal. It is actual. It is not a resume that is puffed-up in any way. The Bible makes it clear that God is incapable of lying. So, if God has a resume, we can trust everything on that resume! And God says “if you seek Me with everything that’s in you and with everything that’s at your disposal, you will find Me!”
So what’s on God’s resume? What does God say about Himself so that we can know Him more? One thing God says very plainly about Himself is that He is love! (1 Jn. 4:8) So if you remember your high school math class, we can do a little reasoning here. If A=B & B=C, then A=C. So if God is love, you can find the word “God” and replace it with love in order to gain more insight into His nature.
Look at 1 Cor. 13. “Love is patient.” So, God is patient! And we see that in other parts of the Bible. He is patient that no one is lost! “Love is kind.” So, God is kind! And we see exactly that in the Word “God is kind to the wicked and the just.” Love is also not envious. And neither is God! God is jealous to spend time with us. BUT He’s not envious . . . there is nothing good that we have that He doesn’t want us to have. In fact the Bible makes it clear He wants us to prosper even as our soul prospers. He wants to bless us and give us things – not see us ruined! He has good plans for us! So, when we go through the list in 1 Cor. 13, we see God’s personality, the personal info on His resume starts coming out. And you go all the way to the bottom of 1 Cor. 13, and you see that “love never fails.” Amen! God never fails!
God’s love is much more concrete than we may think. In fact that is why some of the older translations rendered love “charity.” Charity is giving. It is “I have something that means something to me (time, money, resource) but I am going to give it to someone else even if I may suffer loss in doing so.” Charity is a sacrificial, giving love. So when you think about love, don’t just think about a Valentine’s card. Think about this: “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth” . . . In the beginning Love created the Heavens and the earth! In the beginning, a sacrificial, giving, all encompassing love made the Heavens and the earth. And even before all of that, He knew each of us, thought about us, and loved us to the point that the Lamb was slain before the foundation of the world! He knew He was going to have to step down into a body and suffer a horrible death so that He could love you for all eternity!
God knit you in your mother’s womb. Love knit you together! You were formed with love! God formed you in the womb with love so that you would be born so that He could come into a relationship with you so that you could go into His eternal presence and be loved even more forever and ever! So if you are ever feeling alone or unloved – it’s not true; God loves you!
Everything we can see, everything we can touch, every mountain, every atom, every animal, every star, every planet was formed with love! In the beginning this Love made everything we see, but God said it’s not enough “I’ve got more love to give!” And He made man in His image! Love made something in the image of itself. You are made in the image of Love. If you ever feel like you can’t relate to someone, remember that you are the physical representation of Love! Crafted and formed in a Love that we cannot find the bottom of! You were being thought of before the foundation of the world and during every step Christ took up the hill of Calvary and Jesus said He will never leave us and never forsake us. We will never be without the love of God! There will never be a point in your life where you are not loved!
We pray that you would experience the depth of the Love of God today!!!
