The Process of Faith (part 1d)

The Process of Faith (part 1d)

~ This blog post is an adapted excerpt from a sermon by Peter DeWitt.  You can hear the whole sermon, The Process of Faith,  from Agathos Church – a non-denominational Christian Church in Columbus, Ohio by clicking here.

HOW can ALL of God’s promises be YES for us?  Lets look at Deut. 28:1-14.  This is one of the greatest sets of promises in all of the Word of God.  If you look at it, you will see that the fruit of your womb is blessed, the fruit of your livestock are blessed, you are blessed in your going out and you are blessed in your coming in.  You are above only and not beneath, the head and not the tail.  Your enemies will come one way and flee in seven ways.  That’s blessed!  You are blessed up, down, left, right, backwards, and forwards – in every way!

BUT look at verse 1: “if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today” (emphasizes mine) There is a big, fat, conditional statement right at the beginning of this section of scripture.  IF you are faithful.  IF you are careful to observe.  IF!  That’s when you will get all of these blessings.  So, very quickly you can realize when looking at these that you have not always been faithful, you have not always been careful to obey . . . which would raise the question “which of these blessings would you qualify for?”

Let me ask you to think about to a sermon that Pastor Brad taught on Romans 5:19.  Can you remember the verse? “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.” By the Obedience of ONE . . .  MANY will be made righteous.  It is NOT based on your obedience that you have the blessings of God in your life.   Your righteousness is NOT based on your obedience.  Jesus was the Lamb that was inspected.  And God said “this is my Son in whom I am well pleased.”  Jesus took your place as a sacrifice.  Your righteousness is not based on your obedience & your access to all of God’s promises are not based on your obedience either!  Your all access to pass to all of God’s promises are based completely and SOLELY on the obedience of the ONE you have put your trust in.

When you come before God and ask for His blessings in your life, when you claim His promises for your life, you never claim them on your own account.  You have become a co-heir with Christ!  You claim them on His account.  That’s how all those promises are available to you!  All of the promises of God are YES IN HIM.  It is because of your position IN HIM that all the promises of God are YES for you – every single one of them.  There is not a promise of God that is not YES for you.  Rom 8:16-17 adds “The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ”.

It is on account of Christ that all the promises of God are YES for believers!
