How to Seek First the Kingdom of God

How to Seek First the Kingdom of God

We carry a powerful message.  The Gospel is alive.  When we share the Gospel, the Holy Spirit reaches out and speaks to the hearts of listeners.  The Holy Spirit’s effect is unmistakable and powerful.  The Word of God is living and active!  All we have to do is share it.

We need to wake up to the work that needs done in the Kingdom of God!

My wake up call was during the summer of 2013.  I was learning to witness to people with Pastor Brad, and I found myself wanting a break – wanting to rest instead of wanting to witness.  “I don’t really want to go witnessing” I thought.  BUT, just as I thought that, another thought entered my mind . . .  “wait a second, this does not sound like a scripture that I know.”  Matt 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.”

If our thoughts contrast with the Word of God, that is a good time to “pump the brakes” on our thinking.

The Kingdom of God is where His rule is established.  The Kingdom of God is where His Will is being done.  It is God’s Will that we share the Gospel!  Therefore, sharing the Gospel is a prime example of seeking His Kingdom.  And we are wanting to seek FIRST the Kingdom.

FIRST means FIRST, not second; as a PRIORITY; NOW, not later; BEFORE not after.

The God that asks us to seek first His Kingdom has modeled this sort of prioritization with us.  He died for us while we were yet sinners.  We love because He FIRST loved us.

We all need things.  God loves for us to own nice things, He just doesn’t want us to be owned by things.  In Matthew 6, Jesus explained how to change our thinking about things.  He said “seek first the Kingdom.”  That was His answer about things.  “If you tend to MY BUSINESS, I will tend to your business.”  This is a whole different mindset than most of the World.  It is a total turn around.  The only way we can turn around or break a things-based cycle is we have to STOP SOMETHING!  We need to stop something in order to start something!

If your thinking doesn’t line up with the Word, tell your mind to get in line.

“God I am going to seek first Your Kingdom and I am going to trust you to add all those things to me – including my rest!”  “God show me how!”

It’s a decision.  Matt 6:33 is a decision.  A decision for submission always comes before the provision of submission.  If as a wife you are waiting to submit to your husband until he loves you perfectly, you will never submit to him.  (Eph 5:22-25)  You have to decide.  You have to make a decision.  Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, is waiting to find out if His church will choose to submit to Him.  “Bride of Christ, submit to your husband!”   Seek FIRST the Kingdom!
